Rev. Roger Powell appointed Rural Dean of Marlborough

Rural Dean of Marlborough:

As many of you will be aware, The Bishop of Salisbury has appointed The Reverend Roger Powell as Rural Dean of Marlborough. The appointment started on 5th September. The rural dean shares with the Bishop in the pastoral care of the clergy and the general oversight of parishes in the deanery. It involves meetings with the bishops and archdeacons where the rural dean can discuss matters pertinent to the diocese and the Church of England’s role in society. He is the third rector of The Ridgeway Benefice to be given this honour. Although he has already begun in the role, he needs to be formally commissioned. This will take place with the Archdeacon of Wilts at a short service in Holy Cross Chiseldon on Thursday 8th November at 7.30pm. The service is open to anyone who would like to attend. Please keep Roger in your prayers as he takes on this extra responsibility.

  1. Is this Rev. Roger Powell the person who holds the copyright for the hymn text, “Thank Our God for Sisters, Brothers?”

If so, I am seeking permission to use this text to the tune “Pleading Savior” for the Spring meeting of the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ on June 4 and 5, for one service.

    Sincerely thanking you in advance,
    Rev. Mary Etta Mest
